The Covenant on Healthy Weight is a unique collaboration of a total of 27 partners from national and local governments, industry and civil society organizations, which are collectively committed to fight against the rising trend of overweight and obesity. The main goals of the covenant are to increase awareness of health risks related to overweight and obesity and to achieve an arrest in the evolution of overweight and obesity in children and adults.

The Covenant on Healthy Weight exists of  four sub-covenants that cover different areas of action: work, school, consumer and leisure, and JOGG (Youth On Healthy Weight). Overall objectives are set and the procedural and organizational arrangements are made. Each of the 27 parties have made working arrangements for particular areas and their agreement will run from 2010 to 2015. JOGG is supported by both public and private parties such as the Ministry of Health, Scientific Organizations, health-promoting institutions and companies. The national corporate partners are Albert Heijn, Albron, FrieslandCampina, Nutricia, Unilever and Zilveren Kruis Achmea.

The Covenant annually organizes a national conference to gather all their stakeholders in order to share experiences and knowledge and to have an overview on all the initiatives implemented by the Covenant in the country, including JOGG.

This year the Covenant on Healthy Weight annual conference will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 in Madurodam, The Hague and will focus on Public-Private Partnerships.

The Dutch government sees public-private partnerships as a promising way to promote healthy appealing and accessible choices. The national health policy document 'Health Close' mentions the Covenant on Healthy Weight as an example of how to join forces to reach healthy weight goals in the Netherlands.
